Megan Kerr has proudly represented Long Beach’s Fifth District on the City Council since her election in 2022 and has established herself as one of Long Beach’s most engaged and effective leaders with a clear vision for Long Beach’s future.
A lifelong Long Beach resident, Megan was born and raised in Bixby Knolls, where she and her husband Andy raised their three children. Megan attended St. Anthony High School and Long Beach City College before earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Cal Poly Pomona.
Megan’s commitment to service began early. Shortly after graduating from St. Anthony High School, she started a program to provide meals to people experiencing homelessness. That passion for service led to decades of nonprofit leadership at several local organizations.
In 2014, voters elected Megan to the Long Beach Unified School Board. During her two terms on the School Board, and as Board President, Megan worked to strengthen core curriculum, keep students safe, supported teachers and staff, and responsibly manage the district’s budget.
Since joining the Long Beach City Council, Megan has focused on expanding the community’s quality of life by focusing on strengthening infrastructure, improving public safety, and expanding access to parks and open space. In addition to her role as a City Councilmember, Megan serves as Chair of the city’s Mobility, Ports & Infrastructure Committee, working with city staff to prioritize safe and walkable neighborhoods. Beyond City Hall, Megan serves as Vice-Chair of the Gateway Cities Council of Governments Housing Trust, represents Long Beach at the League of California Cities and is a member of the Southern California Council of Governments (SCAG) regional committees, advocating for economic development and housing solutions.
Megan serves as board chair for Confluence Rising, a local non-profit dedicated to building a world where people live free of oppression and thrive, and as an Executive Board Member for Rancho Los Cerritos, a local historical site whose mission spans education, preservation, and community engagement.
Remaining deeply involved in the community she calls home, Megan is a lifelong animal advocate and has fostered, re-homed, and supported the adoption of more than 100 puppies that might otherwise have ended up in shelters, on the streets, or euthanized. For Megan, public service is personal. She understands the responsibility that comes with representing the community where she was raised and where she raised her own family. Megan remains focused on supporting public safety, protecting our local businesses and strengthening our public infrastructure and city services.
